ACL partners with Big Little Lies production company to deliver new Marple series

Agatha Christie Ltd are partnering with Bruna Papandrea's Made Up Stories (Big Little Lies) for a new series centered on iconic literary figure and amateur sleuth, Miss Marple. The project will be inspired by Christie’s best-selling 12 Miss Marple books and 20 short stories and will be developed together with Endeavor Content.

James Prichard and Basi Akpabio will produce the new Marple series for Agatha Christie Ltd and Papandrea will produce the series for Made Up Stories with Steve Hutensky, Casey Haver, Jeanne Snow and Janice Park shepherding the project on behalf of the company.

Prichard, Chairman and CEO of Agatha Christie Ltd, said, “Miss Marple is one of literature's most iconic female roles and this is the perfect moment to explore how she translates to TV in the context of all that is happening today. With their focus on strong female characters, Made Up Stories is our ideal partner for this project.”

“I'm just thrilled to be joining forces with James and Agatha Christie Ltd to reintroduce the brilliant Miss Marple to the world. Agatha Christie is a true literary legend, and her Marple character at the center of these amazing stories is a complex female heroine providing great entertainment and inspiration. It’s such an exciting opportunity to bring it all to life!” said Papandrea.

Made Up Stories is a development, production and finance company committed to creating content with compelling female figures squarely at the centre and enabling female directors, writers, actors, and fellow producers to tell the stories they want to tell. Founded and run by Papandrea, the award-winning producer of the HBO limited series Big Little Lies (8 Emmy Awards, 4 Golden Globe Awards, etc.), and the feature films Wild, Gone Girl (over $365 million in worldwide box office), Warm Bodies and Milk, Made Up Stories produced in its first-year celebrated filmmaker Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale, which premiered to critical acclaim at the 2018 Venice Film Festival, and rising filmmaker Abe Forsythe’s Little Monsters, starring Lupita Nyong’o and Josh Gad. Additionally, on the television side, the company is currently in pre-production on both the HBO limited series The Undoing, written by David E. Kelly, directed by Susanne Bier, and starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, and Netflix’s limited series Pieces of Her adapted from renowned crime author Karin Slaughter’s eponymous book, to be directed by Lesli Linka Glatter. They are also in post-production on the TNT series Tell Me Your Secrets, written by Harriet Warner and directed by Caméra d’Or winner Houda Benyamina, and recently premiered Meaghan Oppenheimer’s Queen America, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and directed by Alethea Jones, on Facebook Watch.
